Bernicestine McLeod Bailey has provided leadership on so many fronts that it is difficult to describe the complete impact she has had on Brown University.

Since the moment Bernicestine graduated, she has dedicated herself to encouraging engagement among all alumni – with a particular focus on, and understanding of, alumni of color.

Bernicestine’s volunteer efforts have involved her time, her love, her sweat, and perhaps sometimes even her tears. But through it all she has remained true to her vision of how Brown can be the best institution possible in how it serves all its students and alumni.

Dorothy Nelson has been serving as an active member of her class for more than 70 years, but she doesn’t stop there. Most recently, when Boldly Brown: Campaign for Academic Enrichment was launched, Dorothy stepped forward to serve once again in a key position as a campaign co-chair.  Her connection to Brown has served the test of time - and generations of Brown of alumni have benefited from it.

Thomas Berry photoThomas W. Berry ’69, P’92 ’96

Tom stepped up to the plate as Brown Annual Fund chair in July 2004, succeeding Jerome Vascellaro ’74 P’07. His tenure as chair has been nothing short of historic, as the Annual Fund reached outstanding new heights in just three short years.

During fiscal year 2005, 30,230 donors contributed a total of $25 million. The 2007 34,316 donors raised $34.6 million for the Brown Annual Fund, representing an incredible 14% increase in donors and a 38% increase in dollars under Tom’s leadership. A significant component of this increase came from Brown Annual Fund Leaders, who are donors of $10,000 and greater.

During Tom’s three year tenure, those dollars grew by 71%.  And finally, the membership of the Brown Annual Fund Leadership Council grew by over 20%, continuing to build a critical core of volunteer leaders for our annual fund raising initiatives.

Very few people work harder for Brown than Guy Sanchez.  He has served as a BAA Board member, a leader of the Brown University Latino Alumni Council, a class leader, a BASC interviewer, and as a volunteer on countless other Brown committees.  His capacity for hard work and devotion to Brown have been limitless.
