Volunteer Leader Compass

Using Facebook

To Use or Not to Use Facebook?

Facebook has the potential to be a valued and fun way to connect groups of Brown alumni. A Facebook group or page can help you promote events, interact with other alumni, reconnect with long-lost friends, and keep your constituency up-to-date with Brown news.

We encourage you to take the plunge if:

  • You have at least 1-2 other volunteers to help you create and then manage the Facebook group’s page as administrators, adding and updating content every 2-4 weeks and recruiting members.
  • A high percentage of your classmates are already on Facebook (or lots are talking about it!)
  • You want to rally your Brown organization around news and events of interest, help your alumni keep in touch with each other, and build enthusiasm.

Still not sure? See what your peers have already done on Facebook!

Check out links to all the Brown alumni related groups we know of to get inspired. What would work for your group and what wouldn’t? What approach or tone do you want to take?
