Clubs/Associations: Communications

Communicating with your alumni is central to everything you do as a Club leader. There are a variety of Club communication vehicles; this section outlines how-to's for the most popular and effective methods.

  • Communicate with your alumni using broadcast e-mail, one of the electronic communications tools available through BRAVO (BRown Alumni Volunteers Online).

  • Use your Club Web site to keep alumni up to date on events and news. If your Club does not have a Web site or the site needs to be updated and you would like to volunteer to update it, please contact Jennifer Williams Ketay ’63.

  • Consider using Facebook, one of the Web’s most popular social networking sites, to communicate with club members.

  • Share club news and event information by sending a yearly newsletter.

  • Plan your communications for maximum effect by using the Brown Club Leaders Timeline.

  • Brown parents and current students are very enthusiastic about Brown and might enjoy hearing from the local Brown Club several times a year about the club’s events. BRAVO does not provide e-mail or mail addresses for three categories of people: current Brown parents, current students and people in your region whose addresses there are seasonal.

Should you want to include current Brown parents and students at an event, please contact Jennifer Williams Ketay ’63, assistant director of Brown clubs/associations, in order to obtain their e-mail or snail mail addresses.

For your area’s seasonal alumni addresses, contact Jennifer at least three weeks before you plan to send your mail or e-mail.

Either way, you’ll need to use your own e-mail account to reach these individuals. Here’s how:

    • Create the e-mail text (similar to the text you sent through BRAVO).
    • Insert the parent or seasonal e-mail addresses in the bcc. line of the regular e-mail – this protects the confidentiality of the e-mail addresses of parents and alumni in your area.
    • Put your own e-mail address in the “to” line and hit “send.”
