BRAVO: Data Downloads Users Guide
Possible Uses for Data Downloads
- Understand the demographics of your constituency – Do you have a disproportionate number of young alumni? Is there a large block of classmates on the West Coast? Is there a cluster of alumni in a certain professional field? This information can help you plan your programs and communications more effectively.
- Identify possible speakers or hosts for your programs – for instance, since business information is included in the download, you may discover notable alumni within your constituency.
- Create a data file for your local mail house or print out mailing labels. You'll need to cut down the file for this purpose – see see special instructions.
Creating a Data Download
Please note: Data obtained through BRAVO may be used only to conduct the Brown-related functions of a recognized alumni group. See BRAVO Terms of Usage.
Select "data download" from your Function options on the BRAVO welcome screen. The next screen will show you your entire constituency.

To download your entire constituency, click the "download data" button.
To download a subset of your group, click "refine your search” and make your selections, then click "download data."
Figure 2.

Want to reach local parents of current students? Live in an area with a large "seasonal" population? See special instructions for reaching these groups. |
Once you click the “download data” button, your computer will return to the BRAVO welcome screen and begin the download (Figure 2). In a few moments, depending on the size of your constituency, you will see a dialogue box (Figure 3) asking whether to save the file and then where on your computer you would like the data file to be saved. You may need to activate the download with the red “click here” link (Figure 2) if you do not see the dialogue box within a minute or two.
The data you will be saved onto your computer in a comma-delimited format compatible with most word processing or spreadsheet programs.
Your spreadsheet or word processing program should be able to walk you through any steps for importing the data and sorting the list as you please. If your intended use is just for mailing labels or a mail data file, see see special instructions.
