Area Chair
Area Chairs organize the efforts of alumni volunteers to interview
applicants and recruit new students for Brown in a given geographic
area. Major duties include managing, motivating, recruiting,
and assigning a committee of volunteers to conduct applicant
interviews and attend college fairs and local Brown Club/BASC
events.
The Area Chair is also encouraged to get involved with
the local Brown Club (if one exists) and to work with any alumni
affinity groups that may be in the area. Additionally, the Area
Chairs should maintain relationships with the local Talent Quest
Coordinator or School Chair (where applicable), the area Admission
Officer, and local high schools.
Area Chairs are generally selected by the outgoing Area Chair
and their Regional Director. In areas with a large number of
applicants to Brown, Area Chairs serve a three-year term. In
areas with smaller numbers, terms can be extended beyond three
years. Most Area Chairs have had experience as a BASC interviewer
and all have great enthusiasm for Brown!
