Sarah Doyle Women’s Center Open House
The center’s art gallery features an exhibit of sculpture and prints entitled When Is It Time to Panic? by Liz Shepherd. All are welcome.

Brown’s History Goes Digital: The Brown Daily Herald archive
Drop by interactive kiosks in the Sciences or Rockefeller Library lobbies to browse the Brown Daily Herald’s new digital archive. Herald student staffers and Brown Library experts involved in the joint University-BDH project will be on hand to answer your questions.

John Nicholas Brown Center/Public Humanities Program Open House
Built in 1792 and home to five generations of the Brown family, the historic Nightingale-Brown House is now better known as the John Nicholas Brown Center, home to the master’s program in public humanities. Take a look at the house, learn more about the innovative graduate program, and visit a student-curated exhibit.

Brown/NASA Northeast Planetary Data Center Open House
The Brown/NASA Northeast Regional Planetary Data Center is operated cooperatively by NASA’s Planetary Geology and Geophysics Program and Brown University. The Data Center is part of a network of Regional Planetary Image Facilities located throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. On view will be samples of image data obtained by the U.S. Space Program from 1962 to the present, including 3-D images of the Moon and Mars.

Machado de Assis: Reading the Brazilian Master, Then and Now
Machado de Assis is a name that stands alone in 19th-century Latin American fiction. During his prolific career, Machado explored nearly every medium, but it was as a novelist and a short story writer that he forged a narrative voice that would forever affect the literary topography of his nation. Brown University Library commemorates the 100th anniversary of Machado’s death with a display of early criticism of Machado’s works, donated by Professor William Leonard Grossman.

The Politics of Poetry: Walt Whitman and the Public Memory of Abraham Lincoln
Walt Whitman and Abraham Lincoln never met in life, but Whitman has played an instrumental role in the way Americans think about Lincoln. The exhibition, drawn from the McLellan Lincoln Collection and the Harris Collection of American Poetry and Plays at the John Hay Library, explores Whitman’s memorials to Lincoln and their influence on generations of Americans.

Exhibition: Believing Africa
Stop by the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology’s satellite home at Manning Hall to explore Believing Africa, an exhibition that explores the diversity and dynamic nature of African spiritual beliefs in a changing world.

Theater, Freshwater Road by Denise Nicholas
Freshwater Road is the coming of age story of Celeste Tyree, a black college student from the North who goes to Mississippi to work as a voter registration volunteer.
