The Plan for Academic Enrichment

 New, Expanded Financial Aid Policy Approved
A new plan will decrease the financial burden on low- and middle-income students and draw more heavily on the University’s endowment. Some students will no longer have loans as part of their aid packages; others will not have to make a financial contribution at all.

Most Americans can’t travel to Cuba, but 10 Brown students will spend next semester in Havana studying under Cuban professors. Due to tightened restrictions by the Treasury on study abroad programs, only a handful of schools still have similar programs.

Brown’s financial aid budget for academic year 2008-2009 is expanding to $68.5 million. Last year, $13.8 million of the almost $35 million that Annual Fund donors contributed was used to fund need-blind financial support, a top priority of the Plan for Academic Enrichment.

Five members of the Brown wrestling team have been named All-Ivy by the Ivy League’s six head coaches. Senior Levon Mock was named First Team All-Ivy at 285 pounds, his first such honor after two years being named to the Second Team, and senior Jeff Schell was named Second Team for the second time.
