Climate History Rewritten: Arctic Ice Arrived Early
According to new research, Arctic ice formed about 45 million years ago - roughly 14 million years ahead of previous predictions. The discovery provides important insights into global climate change. See also News Bureau release on this topic. (Photo: IODP/ECORD Science Operator)
Literature As A Wake-Up Call To The Inner Life
Reviewer Christopher Byrd says Recovering Your Story: Proust, Joyce, Woolf, Faulkner, Morrison, by Arnold Weinstein, professor of comparative literature, "is distinguished not so much by the way it furthers one's connection to its surveyed texts, which it does, but by the way it excites memories of books and memories of oneself and others." Your Kids Will Learn Better
Students in school districts run by mayors do better academically, according to a new study by researchers at Brown and Harvard. "We believe that mayoral control actually can enhance the overall district well-being, not only in financial terms, but also in terms of the focus on accountability," said co-author Kenneth Wong, Annenberg Professor in Education Policy.
A Sort of Homecoming*
In the New York Times Sunday Book Review of Middle Passages: African American Journeys to Africa, 1781-2005, by History Professor James Campbell, historian Raymond Arsenault calls Campbell "a master storyteller who engages the reader in the human drama of American blacks confronting cultural realities that do not always square with the myths of an imagined native land."
