Volunteer Tutoring
Last year, the Brown Club of Chicago adopted Columbia Explorers Academy (CEA), which is a Chicago public school in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest side of the city, through a program called Alumni for Public Schools (APS). The program was a tremendous success with over 20 volunteers tutoring over 20 students. Those who participated found the program to be highly rewarding.
We're kicking off our second year of the partnership with a new and improved tutoring program. Brown alumni and friends will lead a series of Saturday writing workshops for 4th-6th graders at CEA. Each workshop session will focus on a different topic of interest to students and tutors, such as movie reviews, cooking, or travel. High School Choice Awareness Program
Few CEA graduates know about high school options such as Chicago Public School selective admission, private or charter high schools. We are planning a program to promote awareness of these alternatives for CEA students.
