Welcome to News and Notes!

We'd love to hear what everyone has been up to the past 20 years!  Send any updates on your life - job, kids, pets, whatever - to Emma OWENS Kerins '88 at ekerins@halstead.com.

Sarah BENENSON Goldberg

Laura BERLAND-Shane

I'm currently working on saving the planet at SolarCity - I'm the So Cal Sales Director for this solar energy startup in LA.  Living in Santa Monica with hubby Reid and daughter Stella Jean (age 2 1/2).

Betsy Block

I heard from my freshman year roommate, Hilary Boshes Hoffmeister, through my website, mamacooks.com, which has not only been great for my career, but has also been the reason I've reconnected with lots of old friends. Hilary motivated me to at least come to Field Day. I

live in Boston with my husband and two kids, ages 12 and almost 7. I'm a stay-at-home mom and writer. My first book is coming out this July with Algonquin Books; it's called The Dinner Diaries: Raising Whole Wheat Kids in a White Bread World. I can't wait to see everyone at reunion. Cliché though it may be, it's hard to believe all these years have passed, at times so

quickly, and yet at other times - say, when a baby was wailing - so very slowly . . .

Jane BRODSKY Sprung

I am looking forward to coming back to our 20th reunion!  After graduating from Brown, I worked in New York City for 8 years in consulting for The Wilkerson group, equity research for Salomon Brothers and private banking for the Bank of New York.  I received my MBA at Wharton in 1997 and moved to Boston as Business Development Manager at Genzyme.  I met my husband, Lloyd (University of Pennsylvania 1992) in Boston while he was attending Harvard Business School.  We moved back to Manhattan where I was Director, Business Development, for Novo Media Group and then we moved to Greenwich when our twins, Robert and Jeffrey, turned two.  Our boys are now 6 years old and we have a daughter, Whitney, who is three.  I am currently very involved in the children’s schools and community. We love living in Greenwich and run into Brown Alum, including John Stuart, Greg Rogers, Amanda and Dan Tapiero, and Tyler Wolfram.

Kathy CARBERRY Skestos

I am married to Jason Skestos and the mother of two, Julius, age 5, and Diana, age 3.  After graduating from Brown I returned to Columbus,Ohio, where I worked for Ohio State University and the Wexner Center for the Arts, and earned my MA from Ohio State in arts administration.

While a doctoral student, I was elected president of the National Association of Graduate and Professional Students and lobbied on behalf of student issues in Washington.  Since having children, I have been very active in my community and in particular have worked to support

the right of pregnant women to give birth how, where, and with whom they choose.  I also started and serve as president of the Columbus-area Brown Club.  I haven't been to a reunion since the 5th so I am really looking forward to it!

looking forward to the reunion!

Jim Dodrill

Most of the year I live in Boca Raton, FL with my wife (Meredith) of eight years and our two children, Brooke (6 1/2) and Grant (3 1/2).  We spend summers away from the heat (and the start of hurricane season) at a home in the mountains where we focus on golf, fishing, riding horses, rock climbing and a lot of old fashioned family time.  After practicing law in NY at Latham & Watkins, I moved to FL in 1996 and started a golf equipment and apparel design company, eventually taking it public in 1999.  Almost immediately thereafter I started phasing myself out and bringing in other management, resigning from all my positions in January 2000.  Since then I've run my own corporate and securities law practice (private placements, IPOs, mergers and acquisitions) where I combine my business experience with my legal practice.  Because my client base is global, I'm able to work from home and enjoy family dinner, board games and story time every night.

Cindy EDWARDS Opitz

My job at the UI Museum of Natural history has morphed into a full-time collection management, which I love.  Husband Theo still teaches and coaches and is now coaching director for our city's youth soccer program.  Daughter Sophia swims, plays socccer and viola, runs track and reads voraciously.  At 13, she's already beat my senior SAT verbal score!  Torben (10) plays piano, soccer and tennis and Hagen (10) swims and plays soccer and violin.  Theo and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with a trip to Hawaii in November. (April, 2008).

Vinny Egizi

Since graduation I joined the U.S. Navy for eight years as a Nuclear Engineer and Lieutenant.  I have been at KLA-Tencor for 12 years as Director of Operations.  I was married in 1990 to Evangeline D'Aquila and have three kids:  Marco (14yrs), Allegra (12yrs), and Dante (8yrs).  We currently live in Beverly, MA just north of Boston.  Vinnymass@yahoo.com is my email.

Karen Eidelman

Karen Eidelman is happily living in New York working in the financial services industry. She would be very happy to hear from her classmates and can be reached at keidelman@hotmail.com.

Spencer Green

After a single misguided year of law school, I escaped to the sun-scorched expanse of Los Angeles where I have labored and languished in equal measure as a writer, since a real job was out of the question. In addition to the requisite number of failed TV pilots, I have written for such shows as In Living Color, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, Duckman, Mad TV, The Fairly Oddparents, and Denis Leary's Merry F#%$in' Christmas and put my film geekness to good use as a contributing editor to Leonard Maltin's annual Movie Guide for some 15 years. I was a coeditor of Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia, managing editor of Maltin's Classic Movie Guide and editor of We'll Never Be Young Again: Remembering the Last Days of John F. Kennedy. I have performed at the comedic writers' salon Sit 'n Spin and am the co-writer/co-lyricist of BUKOWSICAL!, which won Outstanding Musical at last year's New York International Fringe Festival. I have also been successfully cutting and chewing my own food since 1998 and particularly like roasted beets except when I don't.

Jim Hanley

My wife, Lauren, and I live in the Davis Square area of Somerville, MA.  We have two beautiful daughters, Maya (3.5) and Fiona (1.5) who definitely keep us on our toes (and yes, I know, the fun is only just beginning!).  Since our 15 year reunion I’ve been working in the wild world of tech start-ups – focused on wireless and the web.  Haven’t quite figured out that next “big thing” but I’m getting close and having a lot of fun.  I look forward to seeing everyone in May.

Mark Feldman

I have two fabulous kids, Ethan (12) and Charlotte (10) and live in Newton, MA with my wife Nikki.  Nikki and I are having fun growing our business strategy firm, the Cause Consulting Group, where we advise Fortune 500 companies on corporate scoial responsibility and philanthropy practices.  We are fortunate to work on a wide range of pressing global issues, including environmental sustainability, access to clean drinking water, and youth development.  Life is wonderfully busy.  Pleas email me at mfeldman@causeconsulting.com.

Rich Feifer

I'm settled into the northern New Jersey suburbs with my wife Marianne Goldstein Feifer (Penn ’88), our daughter Deborah, 8, our son Sam, 6, and our pet Corgi named Sly.  For the past 8 years I’ve been applying my internal medicine background to various responsibilities at Medco Health Solutions, most recently assuming the role of vice president of clinical program development.  Along the way, I found myself missing the classroom, so I went back to school and got my MPH from Columbia.  My latest challenge is trying to figure out golf, which is the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to learn!  Friends can reach me at rfeifer@massmed.org.

John Fullerton

I live in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. with my wife Elissa (NYU '92) and our children Olivia (9) and Declan (5).  I'm a Special Counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, practicing labor and employment law, and I'm an Adjunct Professor of Law at Pace Law School in White Plains, N.Y.  I keep in touch with fellow Pointsters (i.e., the '87-'88 residents of 298 Hope Street) Scott Ash, Bruce Lipsey and Gregg Sullivan.

Brett Goldberg (See Sarah BENENSON Goldberg)

Beth GOLDMAN Galer

I’ve been married for 16 years to Greg Galer ’89 and for the past 11 of those years we’ve lived in a 100+-year-old house in North Easton, Massachusetts.  We’re kept busy by our two daughters – Ellie, who’s currently in the 5th grade, and Anna, who’s in her last year of preschool.  Both kids, of course, say they want to go to Brown someday.  I keep telling them that if I still work there, they probably won’t want to go – since 1998 I’ve worked in the Alumni Relations office, where I manage the Brown Travelers program.  It’s great to work at Brown, particularly in a position where I work closely with many faculty members.  I’m still singing, particularly with Chorus pro Musica in Boston, and I even did a little musical theater last summer.  In the brief moments between all of our activities, the whole Galer family manages to be rabid fans of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Jonathan Gosnell

Since graduation from Brown, I finally finished my formal education, finally got married and finally had kids (this is my Mom and Dad's perspective).  I've been living in Northampton, Mass. and teaching French at Smith College for the past tenyears.  I'm looking forward to doing a little reminiscing in May.

Pam GUIDULI Nash

Life is wonderful. After living a few other places after Brown (NYC, LA, Atlanta, Providence again) I moved back to my home state of Vermont where I met my husband Tom (BA-- Villanova '92, MA-- Boston U '96) and married him in 2003 (I was always a late bloomer!). We currently live Williston with our daughter Isabella, who was born at the gestational age of 23 weeks and 3 days, she is our miracle (4 at the end of May) and our two dogs, Zabaco (a white lab husky wolf mix) and Zoe (yellow lab) in a house that I designed. I went on after Brown to get a Master's in Psychology and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and at present I work in a group private practice in downtown Burlington four days a week and stay at home with my adorable daughter the other three.  Tom, originally from Wellesley, Mass. is a Detective Corporal for the Burlington Police Department, and he is currently assigned to a county wide special victims investigations unit called CUSI, and also does extensive work with ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) which is a state-wide task force that deals with all illegal internet activity, even though its main focus is primarily crimes against children. You can find me on Face Book, or email me at: DrPamelaNash@hotmail.com ~~I'll miss you all at this reunion, but am already planning ahead for the 25th.

Ben Hall

Two years ago I chucked ad agency life to become a fulltime freelancer, and now work as a copywriter for many different clients in the Boston area. Kelly and I have two boys, Henry (almost 5) and Duncan (2.5) with absolutely no plans to have any more. Sleep, hobbies, exercise, the Sunday Times, and calm reflection have all become precious luxuries. As for reunion: It seems odd that when we entered Brown, the class of '64 had just had its 20th a few months before. Surely the world hasn't changed that much in our 20 years, has it?

Tricia HAYES Cole

Tricia Hayes Cole has been living in New York City since leaving Providence except for a brief 2 year stint in Philly at B-school back in the early 90s.  I have been married to Bromme H. Cole (Boston University '86, NYU '93) for 11 years and we have two great kids - our daughter, Mackenzie who is 4 1/2 and our son, Bromme II (aka Bix) who is turning 2 this month.  I made a switch from derivatives to real estate back in the late 90s and have been focused on residential real estate ever since.  I am now the COO of Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, a premier luxury new development residential marketing and sales organization.  The combination of my job and my family keeps me incredibly busy, but we try to still make time for skiing and relaxing on the beach in Amagansett when we can. I look forward to seeing everyone at Reunion!

Ellen JENSEN Abbott

My first book, Watersmeet, will be coming out in Spring, 2009.  It is a fantasy novel for middle grades/young adult readers.

Jonathan Kim

Jonathan currently lives in Bermuda, where he’s general counsel for Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd., a global reinsurer with operations in Europe, Bermuda and North America.  After graduating from Brown, he went on to earn his J.D. at Georgetown and his M.B.A. at Yale and has lived and worked in Washington, DC, New York, Stamford, CT and London.  Since graduation he’s also served the University in a wide range of volunteer capacities, including Co-President of the Brown Club of NYC, BASC Manhattan area chair a well as a stint on the BAA Board of Governors.  He was a recipient of the University’s 2003 Alumni Service Award and is currently treasurer for the Class of 1988.

Debbie Kuklis

I have been working for a San Francisco based software company for the past 6 years, salesforce.com. I have lived in quite a few places since Brown - Georgia, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Chicago, D.C. and NYC. I spent about 8 years in New York working for Booz-Allen & Hamilton and recently (2005) moved back to my home town in Vermont. I travel a lot for business and pleasure - probably been to about 35 countries so far! I have two chocolate labs who are just very darn cute - Harlie and Pax. They are brother and sister and I also have two cats who are also brother and sister. Probably my strangest experience to date has been getting called back into the military in 2003 as an Army Captain to serve overseas - spent almost 6 months in Baghdad and a month in Afghanistan. Thankfully, that is over and done with. Love to ski and went last year on a crazy heli-skiing trip to the Chugach mountains in Alaska.

Lisa LEBOW Kaufman

Life is good----I have been married to Mark Kaufman (class of '87) for sixteen years.  We live in Baltimore and have two daughters, Caroline (age 10) and Lucy (almost 8).  I am a buy-side analyst covering REITs at LaSalle Investment Management.   We are looking forward to the reunion!

John Lee

Greetings!  Well, it has been twenty years and Brown University hasn't heard a peep from the man that was known to his friends and Brown Baseball comrades as "The General."  I think an update is long overdue.  So here it is! After graduating in 88' Joanne Engstrom and I were married on November 3, 1989 and will be celebrating 19 years of blessings together this year.  Joanne had received her MBA from St. John's University and was working for Chubb Insurance and I owned an insurance agency on Long Island.  In 1992, while living in NYC, we were both graciously changed by the Lord (born-again) and became Christians.   We started a family in 1994, Joanne resigned from Chubb in 1995 and we now happily live in Fayetteville, GA with five children (Jennie, 13; Savannah, 10; Josiah, 8; Elijah, 6; and Annie Kate, 4).  See family photo below.  Joanne home-schools all of our children and I am presently engaged in seminary level training to become a minister of Jesus Christ.  I am also an elder of a Reformed Baptist Church (bet you're wondering what that is!) and I would be more than happy to answer questions and/or discuss (via email - johnlee2@bellsouth.net ) my faith with anyone that recognizes that this life is NOT all there is and ever will be. I'm sorry that I won't be able to attend the reunion but thought some of you might be happy to know that I am still alive and doing quite well.

Gilliam LEONARD Climo

After graduating from Brown, I worked in sports marketing and public relations in Boston and Chicago.  Steve Climo ('87) and I got married in 1993, and we moved to the Chicago suburb of Naperville shortly after.  I coached a high school girls varsity tennis team in Naperville 1994-1998, just as we started our family.  We have three daughters 12, 9 and 7 who are all busy with school, travelling soccer and swim team.  I stay at home now, continue to play tennis a little, but have recently become addicted to paddle/platform tennis.  I'm also manager of all three girls' soccer teams, president of the swim team and involved with our schools' Home & School board.  Can't wait to see everyone at the reunion.  I'll be there solo since Steve's got to get all three girls to a soccer tournament that weekend.

Andrea Levine

After Brown, I attended Cornell Law School. I lived in the NY/Fairfield county area practicing corporate law before heading up to the Hartford, CT area to practice commercial real estate law for Dechert LLP. I'm involved in charity work, particularly legal work representing children in the foster care system.  I'm am still an avid skiier and golfer and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in May.

Beth MARX Lorge

Beth MARX Lorge is living in New York City with husband Morton Lorge and kids Jacob (8) and Leo (5).  We started a concert series called Kidrockers (www.kidrockersusa.com), which brings rock groups that normally play to adults to kids and adults.  Our next show is May 18th at 1:00PM at The Living Room in NYC w Los Campesinos! and Pela.

Mike McGarry

Mike is married to Tracy Stone and the couple has two wonderful children Sean and Will. Sean is 3 and 1/2 and frequently tells people not to forget he's not 3 but 3 and 1/2 ! Will is one and has only begun expressing his opinion, which is nonetheless often as adamant as Sean's on various subject matters. It has been said that they take after their father. They are loud enthusiastic and ebullient. The Stone-McGarry family lives in Hamden Connecticut which is about 5 miles north of New Haven. Because of the proximity to Yale, Mike frequently takes the boys to Brown Yale sporting events including Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Soccer, and Field Hockey. All members of the family have learned to cheer "GO Brown!" using their best outside voice.  Mike is an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and prosecutes white collar crime, with a focus on securities and investor fraud. Tracy is also a lawyer. She does consulting work from home as a part time consultant and is also a full time mom. Mike is living the life of a Dad, they have a fixed rate 30 year mortgage, a new mini-van, and a Volvo. In short life is good.

Ann McGONIGLE Santos

I'm married to Shaun Santos, a police officer who just passed the bar last month.  We have two children - Bridget (5) and Connor (7), and are hockey parents so that pretty much sucks up a lot of our time.  I was an Assistant DA in Cambridge, MA for 7 years, and then joined the faculty of Suffolk Law School, where I teach both first year and upper-level writing courses.  Life is pretty damn good!

Denise Noble

I’ll definitely be coming to our 20th (wow!) with my husband, Chris Wasser, and our two sons: Hunter Wasser (age 7) and Vaughan Noble (Age 3).  We’ve been in Vermont since 1999 and are presently living in Richmond which is in the Burlington area.  It’s a wonderful, liberal community that has felt like home the moment we moved in.   We’ve got a great place with some woods, a brook and a wonderful energy. Always room for visitors.

After Brown, I went on to get my Masters of Environmental Management at Duke where I met Chris. Then, after thru-hiking the AT together we headed out west to CO for 5 years. I started my PhD in Ecology at Colorado State University, but ended up moving back home to VT and starting a family before I finished. Currently, I’m a stay-at-home mom and loving every minute of it. Life is crazy busy but wonderful. Hunter’s having a blast in 1st grade and Vaughan keeps me on my toes during the day. I’ve become very involved with the PTO and volunteering at Hunter’s school. We’re really looking forward to the reunion and coming back for a visit.

Emma OWENS Kerins

I have been selling residential real estate for Halstead Property LLC for the past 13 years in New York City and love it!  I work with my husband, Michael Kerins (Long Beach State '87) and have helped quite a few Brown alums find apartments over the past few years!  We just moved to Harlem into an old warehouse that was converted to a residential loft building.   We both play beach volleyball as much as we can. I have two step-children, Brayden, 12 and Briannna, 13, who live in San Diego.

I am living in my hometown, Paris, France, with my Irish wife Leonora, and my children Alannah, 5, and Luke, 2. We both work at the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). I continue to write songs, sing and play bass. I believe my true calling is still music, and I'm trying to battle the challenges of professional and family life to reach that goal. I sing in a world music choir and also do studio gigs in Paris, to keep the flame alive! I am planning to record an album for release in 2009, called "Satin June".

Dana SU Lee

After 11+ years in Las Vegas, I've accepted that we're here for good!  I'm involved with various non-profits such as the Las Vegas Art Museum and co-founded a women's philanthropic fund that's on track to grant $500,000 next year.  Husband Greg, children Graham (8 1/2) and Katie (7), and dog Kora continue to keep me on my toes.  Look forward to seeing everyone at reunion!

Tom Towers

Pumped for reunion, hard to believe it’s been 20 years……My kids are Tommy 5, Jayne 3, and Brody 4 months. My wife, Liz, grew up in New Canaan, CT as well. We moved back there from NYC in 2004. I got a late start family-wise thanks to the fun being single and living in NYC with Brown buddies Sean Moran, Tom Gammino, Bernie Buonanno, and Lee Anderson during the 90s. Gammino and I owned and operated a number of bar/ restaurants in NYC over an 8 year span, some great, a couple not so great. Regardless, I have been working for Gartner Invest for the last few years and am lucky enough to have classmates Tyler Wolfram and Lee Anderson as clients. Refusing to give into age, I continue to play lacrosse with Brown teammates and others annually in Vail and Lake Placid tournaments.

Lauren Westreich

All is good out here.  Business continues to go well.  We have now been in business for ten years!  On the personal front, we've had a great year.  We moved in May and had twins in November!  We have a full house - two kids, three dogs and a cat!
