Here is some wonderful news about our fundraising efforts for our 20th reunion from the Office of Advancement - we broke a record!
Dear committee,
At last, now that the books are officially closed on Brown’s fiscal year, I have the pleasure of telling you that the Class of 1988 has set a new 20th reunion record with its collective gift of $1,207,327 to the Brown Annual Fund! This total – exceeding the Class of 1986’s previous record by $18K – is a remarkable accomplishment, especially given the challenging economic climate this year. It could not have been achieved without the hard work of everyone on the committee and the dedicated leadership of the committee co-chairs: Kimi Sato, Pablo Salame, and Rich Caputo.
Brown depends on the strength of its annual fund to ensure that scholarships, research resources, and academic opportunities are available to its students, and the success of the annual fund in recent years has been a key factor in the substantial advances Brown has been able to make in all three of these areas. Reunion gifts make up more than 30 percent of the total annual fund each year, so record-setting gifts are particularly valuable, not only in absolute terms, but because they continue to raise the bar for the classes that follow.
Please accept my sincere thanks for your help this year, and don’t hesitate to let me know if I can answer any questions for you. It was a pleasure working with you all, and I wish you the very best for the rest of the summer!
Sincerely,
Rachel
P.S. Some people like to know the final results of their solicitations, and I’m happy to pass that information along – just send me a note. I don’t like to do it automatically, because it feels as though I’m distributing report cards!

Jamie Martin-McNaughton ‘03
Class of 1988 Scholarship recipient, 1999-2003
During my time at Brown, I belonged to the varsity fencing team and joined the Alpha Delta Phi Society, a co-ed literary greek house. I graduated with a Sc.B. in Geology-Biology. I am currently working in the Washington, D.C., area for Potomac-Hudson Engineering, a small environmental consulting firm, which contracts with the federal government. We perform NEPA-mandated environmental analyses for the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense. I have worked on several Environmental Impact Statements that were recently released to the public, writing impact analyses for geology, aesthetics and cultural resources. I enjoy my work, which allows for public accountability on Federal Government actions. I am very happy to be afforded the opportunity to attend Brown, and often use the knowledge and the lifelong friendships I found there. I have returned to Brown every year to walk in the commencement march and plan to do so again for my 5th reunion.

I graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and completed my residency training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Now, I am board certified in Internal Medicine and nearly at the end of my fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Maryland. I am at a turning point in my career right now, but haven't yet made a decision about its ultimate direction.
